Born from a flicker of mystery - a blackbird’s shadowy stance at a bird feeder - Spectral Messenger emerged with the haunting grace of a raven cloaked in storm. This striking painting marks the beginning of Maureen’s Wings of the Otherworld series, where myth, magic, and nature converge.
Behind the brushstrokes lies an artist’s bold experiment: Maureen sought to challenge herself by painting a predominantly black subject - a visual symbol of power and mystery. Drawn to the boldness of a dark figure and the energy of a storm, she imagined lightning as the raven’s pathway through realms. Imagined as a time-traveling being that moves between dimensions on bolts of lightning, the raven serves as both guide and omen - a bridge between seen and unseen realms.
Wanting to stay true to her evolving style of abstract realism, she grounded the composition in expressive splotches of vibrant color - an emotional backdrop that bursts beyond realism into raw imagination.
