This stormborn dragon didn’t erupt in a fury of brushstrokes - he waited. I came to him after stepping away from another piece, one that wasn’t giving me the emotion I needed. I craved something deeper - something moody, cinematic, even a little dangerous.
Boltrix gave me all of that from the very first sweep of the sky.
I built the background first - cool, calculated, with the anticipation of a coming storm. It’s that hush before the thunder, the eerie stillness that pulls something primal from your chest. As I layered in the light, the shadows, the subtle electricity in the clouds, I began to connect with something I rarely explore in paint: the dark elements within.
And yet… he didn’t resist. He emerged confidently, as if he knew I was ready for him.
In the Dragonbeat lore, Boltrix is the threat on the horizon - the dragon on the far mountain who doesn’t move until the time is right. While the guardians of the Sanctum protect the light, Boltrix represents the power of shadow, fear, and the unspoken. Some say he’s evil. Others see him as necessary.
I say he’s truth - the emotions we fear deep within us.
